魅力的だがやや不満の残るこの4枚組ボックスセットは、タイトルが示すとおり、レアトラックを集めた異色のコレクションだ。決して初心者向きではないが、ファンならば、このレアトラックと未発表曲をまとめた魅力的なセットは、のどから手がでるほど欲しいはずだ。

テーマごとにCD4枚に分けたこの結成35周年記念セットは、フェアポート・コンベンションの全キャリアにわたる多彩な作品を収録している。ディスク1には、レアトラックと別テイクが集められ、フェアポートの膨大な作品を年代順にたどっている。ディスク2には、さらに希少なレアトラックと知られざるトラック（リチャード・トンプソンが歌う「The Lady Is A Tramp」など）が登場する。ディスク3には、フェアポートの「英国史に基づいた」歌が集められ、各曲で歌われる歴史的事件の年代順に並べられている。ディスク4では、最も人気のある15曲が聴けるが、これもまた耳なじみのないヴァージョンである。

さまざまな音源から収録されているため、当然のごとく音質は楽曲ごとにばらつきが大きく、優れたものもあれば、正直言ってひどいものもある。それに、ライヴテイク、ラジオ番組でのセッション、スタジオ録音のアウトテイクが立ち替わり登場し、さらに新曲と35年前のトラックが並んでいるために、リスナーは戸惑うかもしれない。けれども、名曲が数多くそろえられ、その上、1982年ブロートン城でのライヴテイクの「Poor Will And The Jolly Hangman」や1973年のバンジョーを奏で元気一杯の「Fiddlestix」などうれしい発見もある。

この分厚いボックスセットには、172ページにおよぶ写真入りの冊子もあり、バンドの歴史と全72曲の詳細をあますことなく伝えてくれる。また、同封のポスターや記念のブックレット、特別限定盤CDなどの特典も本セットの魅力を引きたてている。フェアポートが主催するクロップレディ・フェスティバルまで出向くファンなら、本セットを手に取るのに、もうこれ以上の理由はいらないはずだ。（Mark Walker, Amazon.co.uk）
